The Beginnings of MEC Networks

Back in the 1990s, as technology boomed and computer shops sprang up across the Philippines, MEC Networks’ founder and president, Merrick Chua, saw an opportunity. What started as a side hustle quickly evolved into something much greater. By 1995, our president made a bold move. He realized that instead of competing with countless other computer shops, he could empower and connect businesses by becoming a distributor of ICT products. With this pivot, MEC Networks was born —a decision that laid the foundation for a legacy that continues to thrive today.

The company’s first major partnership came in 2002 with Krone, a German cable manufacturer. This partnership was the beginning of MEC’s commitment to delivering world-class products and solutions to the Philippines. Today, that commitment has grown to include over 30 global ICT brands.

MEC Networks’ journey has been extraordinary. Over the past three decades, the company has celebrated several milestones that highlight its growth and dedication to serving its partners:

• Expanding Operations: We had a very modest rented office in Binondo, Manila, then later moved to Ortigas, and eventually had its very own headquarters in Cubao, Quezon City. The holiday season came early this year as we hosted our annual MEC Thanksgiving Dinner on November 15, 2024, at the East Ocean Palace in Parañaque. It was a night of gratitude, celebration, and a magical surprise that left everyone in awe—a special guest performance by the one and only “King of Christmas Carols,” Jose Mari Chan.

Despite the heavy rains that greeted us upon arrival, our mission was not dampened. We knew this wasn’t just about planting trees — it was about sowing hope for a healthier planet and fostering environmental stewardship. The farm provided the perfect setting for us to connect with nature and contribute to the local ecosystem. Planting citrus trees, known for their resilience and environmental benefits, was symbolic of our shared belief in creating long-term impact. Every tree we planted represents a small but significant step towards a greener future.

A Recap of the H3C IT Talk at MEC Networks

Last week, on August 8, MEC Networks teamed up with H3C for an exciting event at our headquarters—the H3C IT Talk. This one-day gathering was all about exploring the latest tech innovations and sharing smart strategies on how to market these new solutions. It was a great opportunity for us to connect with our partners, explore cutting-edge technologies, and build even stronger relationships with H3C. The event was a fantastic way to learn, grow, and prepare for the future together.

What Went Down in the H3C IT Talk

• Enhanced sales strategies with H3C solutions.

• Explored the benefits of H3C’s HCI through a remote demo.

• Experienced real-world applications with live demonstrations of networks and servers.

Product Highlights

The H3C IT Talk event kicked off with an opening statement that highlighted key H3C products: the Uniserver servers, the CAS virtualization platform, and the UIS hyper-converged system led by Ms. Danna Lapore, Mr. Crishar Tabuada, and Mr. Micole Laduvice.

H3C Uniservers

These servers are designed for intelligent management, enabling them to adapt to various situations with powerful computational capabilities. They are suitable for stand-alone, cluster, or data center scenarios.

CAS (Cloud Automation System)

This virtualization and cloud computing management software is tailored for data centers, offering telecom-grade performance in delivering computing, storage, network, and security virtualization resources.

UIS (Unified Infrastructure System)

The UIS serves as an infrastructure that seamlessly integrates with other H3C products such as CAS, ONEStor, and Sec. It streamlines data center and IT operations, enhances management efficiency, and reduces TCO through the UIS Manager software. The UIS, which leverages HCI servers, is easy to set up right out of the box.

After that, two sales strategies were discussed in the morning session, with presentations by Mr. Rolando Mijares and Mr. Jose Rafael Dimaano. The topics, “V-Vendor Out CAS In” and “HCI Sales Guide,” underscored the importance of a deep understanding of both H3C’s products and its competitors to maximize sales.

In the afternoon, Mr. Mijares led the demonstration segment, which was divided into three parts:

H3C Servers Demonstration

Attendees observed the operating power of H3C servers firsthand.

CAS and HDM Demonstration

The second demo showcased the CAS platform alongside the HDM (Hardware Device Management) system embedded in H3C’s servers. The HDM provides monitoring, management, and security control throughout the hardware lifecycle.

UIS Infrastructure Remote Usage

The final demonstration highlighted the remote usage of the UIS infrastructure.

H3C IT Talk concluded with an engaging Q&A session, followed by closing remarks.

We just hosted a landmark conference at the Makati Shangri-La on June 20, 2024, that brought together leaders in IT, business, and innovation. Titled “MEC Tech Summit: Convergence,” it was an extraordinary event attended by over 600 participants, including industry leaders, tech professionals, international speakers, and representatives from globally recognized brands that we proudly distribute. Beyond showcasing cutting-edge technology, the MEC Tech Summit delved into the intersections of Network & Cybersecurity and Smart Buildings & Infrastructure, aiming to propel progress and opportunities.

Continuing the focus on security, Quantum South Asia’s Regional Solution Architect, Mr. JJ Zhang, presented the transformation of surveillance infrastructure through unified platforms, emphasizing how these platforms can enhance both efficiency and security. During the MEC Golf Invitational on March 8, 2024, Arthur “Art” San Gabriel achieved what every golfer dreams of, but few accomplish—a hole-in-one. Art’s remarkable achievement overshadowed the competitive spirit with a unifying round of admiration and applause from participants and spectators alike.
