However, the reasons for using each color is not well known to most.

ANSI/TIA/EIA-606-B Administration Standard for the Telecommunications Infrastructure of Commercial Building documented these cable color standards. Generally, anyone who wants to follow building standards should be familiar with BICSI, and vendors who are BICSI certified would be familiar with these as well.

The colors

Cable colors are specified using Pantone numbers. These colors or their equivalent are to be used.

Orange

Demarcation point

Demarcation point (central office termination)

Green

Network connection

Termination of network connections on the customer side of the demarcation point

Purple

Common equipment

Termination of cables originating from common equipment (PBXs, computers, LANs, and multiplexers). White/Silver in Canada.

White

First Level Backbone

First-level backbone telecommunications media termination in the building containing the main cross-connect to TR or main cross-connect to local intermediate cross-connect). Purple in Canada.

Grey

Second Level Backbone

Second-level backbone telecommunications media termination in the building containing the main cross-connect (local intermediate cross-connect to TR). Purple (in the USA) or white (in Canada) may be used to identify second-level backbone termination in building not containing the main cross-connect.

Blue

Horizontal Cabling

Termination of station telecommunication media; required only at the TR and equipment room end of the cable, not at the telecommunications outlet.

Brown

Interbuilding Backbone

Interbuilding backbone cable termination (main cross-connect to remote intermediate cross-connect)

Yellow

Auxiliary & Miscellaneous Circuits

Termination of auxiliary circuits, alarms, maintenance, security, and other miscellaneous circuits

ICT Month is celebrated every month of June, a celebration commenced in 2008. This is in accordance with Proclamation No. 1521 (series of 2008), which declares that “THE MONTH OF JUNE 2008 AND EVERY YEAR THEREAFTER AS “NATIONAL INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY (ICT)” MONTH”. The conduct of this event is to recognize the contributions of ICT as one of the major sectors for economic growth and, as such, has resolved to fully implement a national ICT program that shall optimize the utilization of ICT.

ICTip #2: H.265+ Compression – Longer Recordings with Less Storage https://mec.ph/blogs/h-265-compression-longer-recordings-less-storage/ Fri, 02 Jun 2017 01:58:11 +0000 http://www.mec.ph/?p=32006 Hikvision’s H.265+ dramatically improves encoding efficiency: reducing bandwidth requirements by up to 75% compared to H.264.

Video compression technology is a crucial factor in a surveillance system. Two of the most popular are H.264 and H.265. Developed in the late nineties, H.264 is still one of the most widely used formats for recording. H.265, also known as High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC), is slowly dominating the IP video encoding technology with its capacity to double the compression ratio at the same level of video quality. But what’s next for H.265?

What are the benefits of H.265+?

Hikvision’s H.265+ dramatically improves encoding efficiency: reducing bandwidth requirements by up to 75% compared to H.264, and taking up half as much storage space for the same amount of video footage. Bitrates are reduced but transmission quality remains high. H.265+ is a major step forward in video compression and means significant storage cost savings for users.

Selecting a next-generation firewall or any large technology investment for that matter is a big decision to make.

In the case of a next-generation firewall (NGFW), the customer must take into consideration both the vendor and the product that will impact the long-term costs of owning and managing the device.

Best-in-class or one-stop shop? Start-up or established vendor?

Gartner’s Magic Quadrant and NSSLAB for NGFWs yearly release review and performance test results of several NGFW products like SonicWALL and Fortinet will help you decide the best and most stable NGFW products.
